It’s difficult to imagine life without the trusty text message. Today SMS proves it has stood the test of time by celebrating its 21st birthday!
On December 3rd 1992, text engineer Neil Papworth sent the very first text message to his colleague Richard Jarvis. The message, which simply read “Merry Christmas!” was sent from a PC to a mobile phone.
The text message was thought to be a ‘fad’ when first introduced, but after 21 years of growing it looks like it is here to stay.
